Theatre

The Suter has a small theatre used for visiting and local performances. The Independent is a newly opened venue for ‘alternative’ theatre. The Playhouse (off the Coastal Highway) offers regular professional theatre and entertainment. The Theatre Royal in Nelson city was built in 1878 and is currently closed for a major refurbishment. The Village Theatre in Takaka brings live performance and movies to Golden Bay.
