Nelson School of Music

The Nelson School of Music was established over a century ago and is the oldest music education institution in New Zealand. Today it is a community-based performing arts and music education centre, from preschool to adult levels. More than 150 concerts are presented each year in its famed auditorium, ranging from the Nelson Symphony Orchestra to visiting jazz groups and a Winter Festival in July.

Adam Chamber Music Festival

Every two years, Nelson hosts the Adam Chamber Music Festival, in the beautiful and acoustically perfect locations of the Nelson Cathedral and School of Music auditorium. Classical and contemporary works are performed by top international musicians and the New Zealand String Quartet. The next festival is in 2009, and again in 2011.
