A Partnership between Department of Labour and Nelson City Council
The comprehensive guide to Nelson artists and craftspeople is the Nelson Art Guide. Produced by Arts Marketing and established by artists in 1993, the guide creates an environment for the arts to flourish in the Nelson Tasman region. Arts Marketing works with many sectors of the arts from fashion to photography and painters to potters, assisting artists and helping to make Nelson a region known for its creativity and events.
The Nelson Events Strategy aims to develop events that will enhance the region’s identity and stimulate visitor numbers in the traditional off-peak season. Events that align with main regional areas of activity - maritime, seafood and the creative arts sector - are encouraged within the strategy.
During 2008 the community has been involved with developing the Nelson Tasman Regional Arts Strategy, under the leadership of the Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency.
ACN is a community arts focused organisation providing free support and advice for groups and individuals undertaking local arts and cultural projects within the Nelson, Richmond and Waimea areas. It administers Creative Communities funding for local arts projects through bi-annual and monthly funding rounds. ACN administers www.artloop.co.nz and offers free information and promotional opportunities for local exhibitions and events. Supported by the Nelson City Council, ACN also assists emerging artists and community groups with exhibitions. Motueka and Golden Bay also have Community arts councils.
